A female teacher injured in the Milestone School and College plane crash in the capital’s Diabari area succumbed to her burn injuries, raising the death toll from the tragedy to 35.

Mahfuza, 45, died on Thursday afternoon (Aug 14) while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Resident Surgeon Dr Shaon Bin Rahman.

He confirmed that the teacher had suffered burns over 25 percent of her body in the explosion and succumbed despite receiving intensive care.

Dr Rahman added that 23 other patients injured in the incident remain admitted, including one in the intensive care unit. 

With Mahfuza’s death, the institute has recorded 19 fatalities from the crash, while 14 patients have been discharged.

Turag Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Monirul Islam confirmed that the overall death toll from the incident now stands at 35.
