Members of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations will face legal action if they attempt to commit offences on the occasion of August 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has said.
He said as the party’s political activities are prohibited, they will not be allowed to take to the streets.
Speaking to Banglanews on Thursday (August 14), the DMP commissioner said no political programmes by the banned Awami League will be permitted on the streets under any circumstances.
He added that police and other law enforcement agencies remain alert for security purposes, with all intelligence units actively working.
Meanwhile, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted drives in various parts of the capital in the past 24 hours, arresting 13 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated bodies.
