In the latest phase of the nationwide anti-crime drive, police arrested 1,849 crime suspects and recovered six firearms and assorted ammunition in the past 24 hours, the Police Headquarters said.

Of those detained, 1,203 were arrested in connection with previous cases and pending warrants, while 646 were held on various fresh criminal charges.

Law enforcement officials recovered two pistols, a three-quarter rifle, a revolver, a single-barrel gun and a locally made shotgun (LG). They also seized two bullets, two magazines, nine cartridges, three crude bombs and a Chinese axe during the operations.

Police said the arrests and recoveries are part of sustained efforts to curb violent crime and improve public safety across the country. Further legal action will follow after completion of investigative procedures.
