Renowned academic, writer, and emeritus professor of English at the University of Dhaka, Syed Manzoorul Islam, passed away this afternoon at the age of 74.

He breathed his last around 5pm today (October 10) while undergoing treatment at LabAid Hospital in the capital.

According to hospital sources, Professor Islam suffered a heart attack last Friday (October 4) and was admitted to the hospital, where he underwent a stenting procedure. 

He was later placed on life support, but his condition deteriorated over the following days.

Syed Manzoorul Islam was widely respected for his contributions to literature, education, and cultural discourse in Bangladesh.
