A Dhaka court today placed Bangladeshi-origin US citizen Enayet Karim Chowdhury on a fresh five-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Ramna Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammed Zunayed passed the order after police produced Enayet before the court and sought a seven-day remand for further interrogation.
Earlier, Enayet had been placed on two-day remand on September 15 and another five-day remand on September 17 in the same case.
According to police, Sub-Inspector Azizul Hakim filed the case on September 14, a day after Enayet was arrested from the Mintoo Road area while moving suspiciously in a Land Cruiser Prado SUV.
Case documents allege that Enayet, acting as an agent of a foreign intelligence agency, was involved in a conspiracy to undermine public security and the sovereignty of Bangladesh.
