DHAKA: Home Minister Sahara Khatun assured garment manufacturers and exporters of deploying additional police force for the safety of the country’s export sector, recently ravaged by massive unrest.

“Stern action would be taken against those who want to harass the government by creating unrest in the RMG industry,” Sahara told them in a meeting Thursday.

A delegation of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) led by president Abdus Salam Morshedy met her on Thursday noon.

The BGMEA leaders also demanded deployment of more police in the industrial belts during Ramadan.

The Home Minister also condemned the attack on Ashulia thana OC during clashes between workers and cops.

After the meeting Sahara Khatun told journalists, “Anarchy is being let loose in the country as soon as the war crimes trial started. But they will be faced unitedly.”

BGMEA president Abdus Salam Morshedy later told journalists that the situation is normal now and there is no chance of further outbreaks in the sector.
