Train derails in Comilla ; Communications on 30 routes suspended

COMILLA: Rail communications on 30 routes to the capital, Dhaka, and country’s eastern parts remained suspended as a train derailed at Borol in Sadar South upazila on Saturday.

Railway sources said two goods-laden bogies of Jalalabad Express fell off the track in-between Lalmai and Alishwar stations at about 12:14pm.

Sufferings of thousands of passengers knew no bounds as  six trains including Chittagong-bound Paharika Express, Dhaka-bound Upokul Express and Mohanagar Arunima, got stranded at different stations.

A relief train from Laksham reached the spot at around 2:30 pm to clear the line by conducting salvage operation.

Ibrahim Khalil, railway manager of Chittagong zone said, “The line may be cleared by 8 pm and we’re trying our level best”.

Lack of skill of the drivers is blamed for frequent accidents on the route.
