HC halts 30th BCS preliminary results

DHAKA: The High Court forbade the Public Service Commission from publishing results of the 30th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examination until further order, as some candidates alleged the exam was marred by flaws.

An HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain ordered the halt in response to a writ petition filed by the aggrieved job-seekers.

The court also set Monday for next hearing on the petition filed by 19 candidates on August 5 seeking cancellation of the job test.

As per the petition, candidates were victim of “errors” in at least 15 questions of set-2 question paper.

Manzil Murshed, lawyer for the plaintiff, said to the court that the PSC, as per article 140 (1) of its law, “failed to perform its duty to recruit people through proper test”.

Deputy Attorney-General Nazrul Islam moved for the state to face the challenge against the latest civil-service exam.

The 30th BCS Preliminary test was held on July 30 at 110 centers in six divisional headquarters with about 147,988 applicants vying for 2,572 posts.
