More time to submit Aug 21 grenade attack probe report: Next date Nov 22

DHAKA: A Dhaka court Wednesday extended the time for submitting probe report on one of the two cases involving the August 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge (2nd) Fazila Begum issued the order extending the timeline to November 22 after the state side sought more time to submit the report of further investigation into the case of killings.

The date for submitting probe report has so far been extended several times.

Special Police Super of the CID Abdul Kahar Akand, also the investigation officer of the sensational case, filed the petition with the court seeking four more months to complete the protracted investigation.

State lawyer Akram Uddin Shyamal told banglanews24.com.bd that the date for submission of probe report of further investigation was extended four times.

At least 24 people, including women`s affairs secretary of Awami League Ivy Rahman, were killed and 100 others injured in the deadly grenade attack on the party rally at Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was the opposition leader at the time, was also injured in the grisly grenade attack.
