Contractor shot for not paying off extortionists in Kushtia

KUSHTIA: A contractor was shot at Sheikhpara Bazar near Islami University on Thursday night as he refused to pay toll.

Victim Raju Ahmed, 45, of Sheikhpara village in Jhenidah district, was admitted to Kushtia Genaral Hospital in a critical condition.

Kushtia Islami University thana OC Mizanur Rahman said that some unknown assailants shot Raju from behind when he was returning home by motorcycle after saying ‘tarabi’ prayer at around 10 pm.

Family sources claimed some unknown assailants have been demanding toll from Raju since his construction firm was awarded a tender work worth about Tk 2 crore. But, Raju refused to meet their demand, they added.
