Adilur,Elan accused for false info

DHAKA: The investigators charged two top officials of Odhikar, a human rights organization, for their involvement in publishing a false report and photographs over death toll of a police crackdown of Hefajat-e-Islam rally in the city.

The officials are ‘Odhikar’ secretary Adilur Rahman and director Nasir Uddin Elan.

Detective Branch of Police inspector Ashraful Islam submitted the report to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

Besides, the members of law enforcement agency are trying to arrest ‘Odhikar’ director Nasir Uddin Elan.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police investigated that Odhikar claim of 61 deaths in the May 5 police crackdown and pressed charge sheet against the rights workers.

DB Joint Commissioner told journalists the charges were brought under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act and Penal Code.

On August 10, a cyber crime team of Detective Branch of Police of DMP held the former attorney general and human rights activist Adilur Rahman from his Gulshan residence for his alleged involvement in violation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Act.

Adilur is now in Kashimpur Central Jail.
