DHAKA: Dhaka City Corporation (North) is set to hold a meeting on Thursday to decide whether vehicle movement through Bashundhara Crossing will be closed permanently on the eve of opening of the Jamuna Future Park.
The meeting will be held at Nagar Bhaban in city’s Gulshan area at around 2:00pm.
DCC issued a notice about the matter on Wednesday.
Earlier, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader visited the area at around 11:00am on Wednesday to observe the traffic situation.
During his visit, Jamuna Group Chairman NI Islam (Babul) annoyed the minister by creating pressure to seal Bashundhara Crossing immediately.
Without any arrangement of easy entrance of visitors, Jamuna Future Park, built beside Progoti Sarani road, is going to be inaugurated soon.
Meanwhile, Jamauna group chairman also threatened chief engineer of Dhaka City Corporation (North).
Later, the minister gave directives to DCC officials to take necessary steps to solve the problem.
At one stage of the annoyance of Babul, the Communications Minister asked Deputy Police Commissioner Ruhul to stop Bashundhara crossing for few minutes to observe the traffic situation.
Obaidul Quader also said that there are two ways, a long term and a short term process to reduce the jam in the area.
But short term process is better because we want to reduce people’s sufferings.
Dhaka City Corporation (north) Additional Chief Engineer Kudrat Ullah, Superintendent Engineer Abdur Razzak, Executive Engineer Mahabubur Rahman and others were present during the time.
DCC (north) Chief Executive Officer BM Enamul Haque said, “We want a peaceful solution. Instantly we can’t stop the crossing because various institutions, Apollo hospital and other city dwellers use it.”
Representatives from Dhaka metropolitan police, Bashundhara group, Jamuna group will join in the Thursday’s meeting, he added.
