PM joining 68th UNGA in NY

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would fly to the United States to attend the 68th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York.

A reliable source of Prime Minister Office (PMO) confirmed the matter to banglanews on Tuesday evening.

Earlier, it was known that Sheikh Hasina would not attend to the UNGA as she will busy with party’s grassroots level leaders and activists.

Permanent representative for Bangladesh mission at UN Dr AK Abdul Momen talked with banglanews about the preparations and Bangladesh’s stand on the upcoming general assembly.

Dr AK Abdul Momen said Sheikh Hasina is likely to attend the inaugural session of the Assembly on September 24 as it is very important for Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina will be present at High-level meeting of the General Assembly on nuclear disarmament on September 26, he added.

UNGA, the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the 193-member United Nations, meets in regular session from September to December each year for multilateral discussion on international issues covered by its Charter.
