DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why it should not be issued directives to take necessary steps to formulate Formalin Controlling Act in the upcoming session of the National Parliament.
An HC vacation bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Jafar Ahmed issued the rule following a writ petition.
The court also wanted to know why steps should not be taken to test the commodities sold in shops to determine formalin, carbide, melamine, colours and chemical elements’.
A total of 10 persons, including secretaries of home affairs, law affairs, commerce affairs, health affairs, director general of BSTI were made respondents to the rule.
Lawyer Dr M Yunus Ali Akand moved in the hearing as the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Jamatur Karim moved for the state.
