JS session begins sans opposition

DHAKA: The 19th session of National Parliament began at 5:00pm Thursday without main opposition BNP and its allies.

On August 18, President M Abdul Hamid under section 72(1) of the Constitution summoned the session.

It is also the fourth session of the year and decision about poll-time government might be finalized in the session. The session will continue till October 24.

On July 16, the budget session of the parliament ended.

The lawmakers of opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance attended some 75 days out of 394 working days of the 18 previous sessions of the parliament.

Present parliament started its journey on January 25 in 2009 and it would be dissolved on January 24 in 2014.
