Pickets kill auto-rickshaw driver

FENI: A driver of a CNG-run Auto-rickshaw was killed in an attack by picketers in Daganbhuiyan upazila of the district on early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Abu Naser, son of Abu Taher of Betura village under Daganbhuiyan municipality.

Daganbhuiyan municipality councilor Ziauddin Masuk said, “On his way to Daganbhuiyan from Companiganj, a group of hartal supporters hurled brick chips at Naser in Dudmukha Taler Chhara area at around 2:00am, leaving him injured.

Locals rushed him to Companiganj Upazila Health Complex with head injuries where he succumbed.
 
Daganbhuiyan police station Officer-in-Charge Anwarul Azim told banglanews that he heard the incident and started inquiry for details.

The 48-hour hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting Supreme Court verdict that awarded death penalty to Quader Mollah, is underway amid stray incidents of violence countrywide from 6:00am Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Appellate division on Tuesday sentenced Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah to death for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
