DHAKA: Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad Thursday said the government is working to build a ‘digital’ Bangladesh for establishing good governance ensuring transparency and accountability, empowering people, alleviating poverty and making government services accessible.

“All the things will be carried out through utilizing the technology,” he also said while inaugurating a workshop organized by the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in its seminar room.

Dulal Chandra Biswas, Director-General of PIB, presided over the workshop on ‘Orientation for journalists on Digital Bangladesh affairs’. Anir Choudhury, policy adviser of AtoI project, presented a keynote.

The minister said there is a vague idea among people about the meaning of ‘Digital Bangladesh’. It does not only mean “technological advancement or IT education,” he clarified.

Terming media persons as change agents, he urged them to provide objective news and criticism.

Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Choudhury, Secretary of the Information Ministry, and Habibur Rahman Milon, Chairman of the PIB, delivered their speeches as special guests at the workshop.

Media persons from different electronic and print media participated in the workshop.
