Dhaka: The age-old Bengali newspaper ‘The Daily Ittefaq’ got a new address for publishing from Friday, completing the process of ownership transfer among the successors.

The daily will have a new printer`s line as well with the changed address of Kajlar Paar, Demra Road, Dhaka-1205, instead of 1, Ramkrishna Mission Road.

Members of the staff of the newspaper worked for the last time in the old office Thursday—many taking a trip down the memory lane, as they packed their bags.

A high official of the newspaper told banglanews24.com.bd that the Ittefaq would be published from Kajlar Paar, on the southeastern fringe of the city, from Friday.

The daily would maintain its commercial offices in Motijheel and feature section in Karwan Bazar areas, he added.

After the death of Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia, the founder of the paper, its ownership went to his two sons--Anwar Hossain Manju and Mainul Hosein.

Later, a number of killings took place in the office during a 20-year-long dispute over the ownership of the newspaper between the two brothers.

Finally, the dispute ended with an agreement signed between the two sides on May 2. Under the agreement, Anwar Hossain Manju got the ownership of the daily while the Ittefaq building plus Tk 100 crore in cash went to the elder’s share.

The elder brother, Mainul Hosein, relinquished his share of the Ittefaq cake for his younger brother and their sisters in exchange for the building where the newspaper`s offices were housed.
