Indebted restaurateur commits suicide in Pabna

PABNA: Caught up in lenders’ web, an indebted small trader committed suicide on Friday morning at Briroynagar village in Chatmohor upazila of the district, locals said.

Shyamal Chandra, 30, son of Potiram Chandra, was the owner of a small restaurant.

Local people and police said Shyamal took loans from several NGOs to meet his business needs. But, later, “NGO officials created pressure on him as he was failing to pay back the money”, they added.

Shyamal took acidity-cure tablets at 10am Friday and he died on way to hospital, family members said.

His widow, Chitra Rani, told BanglaNews24.com.bd correspondent that her husband borrowed money from three NGOs. “He committed suicide as NGO workers pressured him to return the borrowed money.”
 
Chatmohor Thana OC Syed Shahid Alam also told Banglanews24.com.bd that as per family members of Shyamal, he committed suicide having failed to repay the money.

Police recovered and sent the body to Pabna Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
 
An unnatural death case was filed with Chatmohar Thana in this connection.
