Dhaka, the overcrowded capital of Bangladesh, ranked 30th among cities with the worst air quality this morning (July 9) with an AQI score of 68 at 9:20am.
According to the AQI index, Dhaka’s air was classified as ‘moderate’, posing a light health risk, especially for sensitive groups. Monsoon weather has helped keep pollution levels lower than usual.
Uganda’s Kampala, DR Congo’s Kinshasa, and UAE’s Dubai topped the list with AQI scores of 159, 158, and 139 respectively.
The AQI measures daily air quality based on key pollutants and warns residents about possible health effects.
Dhaka’s air usually worsens in winter and improves during monsoon season.
As per World Health Organisation (WHO), air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year.
