DHAKA: In protest against arrests and alleged attacks on their leaders and workers during Sunday’s dawn-to-dusk hartal, the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is staging countrywide demonstrations Monday.
BNP secretary-general Khondoker Delwar Hossain announced the protest programme at a press conference Sunday.
According to the programme BNP will hold a rally at Muktangan in the afternoon to protest government’s ‘unfair action’ and demand immediate release of the detained BNP leaders and workers.
Besides, party’s district units would arrange demonstrations in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia congratulated the people on observing the hartal ‘spontaneously’.
She sat for a standing-committee meeting on Sunday night with party leaders and urged the BNP workers to make Monday’s demonstrations a “success”.
