GM Quader, Jatiya Party Chairman and Leader of the Opposition in parliament said to make the country's electoral system independent. All political parties must be united to raise the demand of a free and transparent electoral system.
GM Quader was addressing to media at the party office at Banani in the capital on Wednesday (May 3) afternoon.
Quader said the neighbouring countries like India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan have developed their electoral systems. But, old practice over election is followed in Bangladesh.
"Whenever any party remains in power during election, it tries to hold a controlled election making lame excuses of constitutional provisions, because those who remain in power, they become afraid of being accountable to people. On the other hand, whenever it has to leave power, it talks depending on people," he said.
