The government has put a hold on the sentence of Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of BNP for one year, on the charge of acquiring wealth outside of known income.
On August 2 last year, a court in Dhaka sentenced BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman to 9 years and his wife Zubaida Rahman to 3 years in prison on the charge of acquiring wealth outside of known income.
A notification was issued in this regard by the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The notification was signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mohammad Abu Saeed Mollah.
The notification read that, taking into consideration of Dr. Zubaida Rahman's application for sentence suspension and the opinion of the Law and Judiciary Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, the President ordered suspension of the sentence for one year.
In the notification it was further said, Zubaida Rahman, will surrender to the court and file an appeal under the powers provided in the Code of Criminal Procedure (Act No. V of 1898).
