Mahmudur Rahman issues 7-day ultimatum to ban BCL

The daily Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman gave a seven-day ultimatum to ban Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) as a terrorist organisation.

He issued this ultimatum in a meeting at the National Press Club on Sunday.

Mahmudur Rahman said, "All the statues of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman must be removed. Initiatives should be taken to cancel the nomination of Saima Wazed Putul from the World Health Organization. All agreements made with India during the past 15 years must be reviewed.”

"During the Hasina regime total judiciary system acted as a puppet of the ruling party. Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim should have been arrested for Skype scam. Bangladeshi media is still under the control of Indian hegemony. The media of Bangladesh has used the narrative of fundamentalism and Islamic militancy," he added.

He also said, "Jamuna Bridge should be renamed as Shaheed Abu Sayed Bridge and Bangabandhu Avenue should be named as Shaheed Abrar, the slain student of BUET."

Mahmudur Rahman was released from jail on bail on October 3 in a case involving conspiracy to kidnap and attempt to kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT advisor.
