The High Court today (May 14) granted bail to Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in a corruption case where she had been sentenced to three years in prison.
The court also accepted her appeal for a hearing, paving the way for a legal review of her conviction.
A bench led by Justice Md Khasruzzaman issued the order, following arguments presented by senior lawyer SM Shahjahan, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and Barrister Kayser Kamal, who represented Rahman during the hearing.
On Tuesday, the same justice condoned her 587-day delay in filing the appeal, citing legal considerations.
Under Bangladeshi law, appeals in criminal cases must be filed within 30 days of the trial court’s verdict.
