Announce July declaration, judicial reforms, election roadmap together: NCP

The National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Md Nahid Islam on Saturday (May 24) called on the interim government to simultaneously announce the upcoming July Declaration, a roadmap for judicial reforms, and plans for the next general election.

He said the country is facing an environment of “uncertainty and instability,” which needs to be addressed through a clear and inclusive political roadmap.

Nahid came up with the plea while speaking at a press conference held at the party's temporary office in Rupayan Tower, Bangla Motor, in the capital.

“Recent discussions, including the question of Dr Muhammad Yunus’s resignation, have reflected the deep expectations of the people from this interim administration,” said Nahid Islam.

“We believe this government was formed in the context of a mass uprising and therefore holds the responsibility to implement the aspirations born out of it,” he added.

The NCP leader said the public expects not only a transition to elections but also justice for past events — including what he termed the “July genocide” — and institutional reforms to ensure the right to vote and democratic accountability.

“We urge Dr Yunus to initiate political dialogue with all parties,” Nahid added, saying, “The July Declaration should not be issued in isolation. The roadmap for justice, state reform, and credible elections must be declared together. That would instill a sense of confidence and relief among political stakeholders and the public.”

He also called for responsible political behavior from all parties, emphasizing national unity, public safety, and the long-term stability of a democratic Bangladesh.

Also present at the briefing were NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patowary, and Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah.
