HABIGANJ: A ruling Awami League leader Murshed Kamal Moshahid (36) was crushed under the wheels of an inter-city train at Harashpur Railway Station in Madhabpur of the district on Sunday.

The accident took place at 10:45am on Dhaka-Sylhet railway track.

Moshahid was joint-secretary of Awami League Lakhai upazila unit and also former chairman of Bullah Union Parishad (UP) of the districts.

Lakhai upazila Chhatra League general secretary Touhidul Islam said that Moshahid along with Lakhai upazila AL president and Bamoi UP chairman Mahfuz Alam were going from Shayestaganj to Dhaka by Kalni Express.

The train stopped at Harashpur Railway Station as Sylhet-bound Parabat Express was crossing the area.

Moshahid rode down from the train to buy water from a shop at the station. While crossing the track, he was crushed under Parabat Express and died on the spot.

On information, railway police recovered the body.

Shayestaganj Railway Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (IS) Osman Gani confirmed the matter to banglanews.
