DHAKA: A four-member delegation of European Union (EU) Parliamentary delegation met with a delegation of ruling Awami League at party president’s Dhanmondi political office on Monday.
The delegation asked the leaders of the party whether the parliament is effective.
Jean Lombard led the EU parliamentary delegation in the meeting that started at 4:40pm and ended around 5:30pm.
Joint general secretary of AL Mahbubul Alam Hanif was briefing reporters after the meeting.
He further said the EU wanted to know about the effectiveness of the Jatiya Sangsad. AL has explained the position of government and the opposition in the parliament.
Hanif claimed that the EU delegation showed their satisfaction over the explanations.
In response to a question, the AL leader said they did not talk about midterm election.
Main emphasis of the EU delegation was the apparel sector and the organizational activities of the party, he added.
AL leader Mahbubul Alam Hanif led the four-member delegation. The other members of the delegation were, joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam and personal assistant to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, also office secretary of the party.
This was the first meeting between AL leaders and EU Parliamentary delegation after the January 5 general elections.
