DCCs get new administrators

DHAKA: The government Thursday appointed new administrators to the two Dhaka city corporations (DCC) amid Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directives to hold elections within this winter.

Director General of Jute Directorate Dr Rakhal Chandra Barman was appointed as the administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) while Home Ministry’s additional secretary M Shawkat Mostafa to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Of those government officials, Shawkat had been an officer on special duty (OSD).

Incumbent administrators Farukh Jalil of DNCC has been transferred to Road Transport and Highway Department while Ibrahim Hossain of DSCC to Ministry of Public Administration (MOPA) as additional secretary.

MOPA issued two separate orders in this regard in the morning.

On December 8, a draft of the “Local Government (City Corporation) (Amended), Bill 2014” was placed before a meeting of the Cabinet Division.

The bill proposed a job tenure extension of the administrators from six months to one year.

But the Cabinet returned the draft bill as earlier the premier stressed on holding election to these city corporations within the winter session.
