NARAYANGANJ: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday said ruling Awami League government is a burden to countrymen.
“The government is torturing, abducting and killing people. They have no right to stay in power as they have become burden to people for wrong doings,” she said.
She was addressing a 20-party rally organized to foster public support for the demand of immediate election under non-party government at Kanchpur Balurmath at Sonargaon in the afternoon.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia reached the rally venue at 3:45pm to press home the demand for mid-term election under non-party caretaker government.
The rally began with the recitation of verses from the holy Quran after arrival of thousands of 20-party alliance activists at the venue, adjacent to the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
District BNP president and also the district alliance convener advocate Taimur Alam Khandakar is presiding over the rally at Kanchpur Balurmath in Sonargaon.
However, Khaleda will deliver her speech after local leaders of the alliance.
