DHAKA: Ruling Awami League advisory council member Suranjit Sengupta on Saturday categorically said that the Dhaka City Corporations elections will be held within the next two or three months.
All the parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), will join the polls, he added.
The senior AL leader made the statement at Saturday noon while addressing a discussion titled ‘Bangabandhur Sonar Bangladesh Gorte Amader Karaniya’ organized by Swadhinata League in city’s Segunbagicha area.
He said that all the upcoming elections, including local and national, will be held under the supervision of the incumbent government.
“Even, Khaleda Zia might participate there as a burnt child fears the fire”, he commented.
Criticizing BNP, the Awami policymaker further said that at first the party (BNP) demanded the government to arrange elections, but now, they are saying that it (election) will be arranged to spoil their movement.
He, moreover, advised all parties to take preparation for the upcoming elections avoiding violence as it was created prior to the January 5 national polls.
AL leader Sujit Roy Nandi, among others, also spoke at the discussion chaired by Swadhinata League president principal M Rafik Ullah.
