Youth jailed for torching MP’s vehicle

DHAKA: A mobile court awarded two years imprisonment to a young man for torching the vehicle of MP Chhabi while he was going to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam passed the order on Wednesday afternoon.

The convict is Afzal Hossain, 22, a third year honors student of city’s Dania University College.

Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Habil told banglanews that police detained Afzal from DMCH in the connection of torching MP Chabbi’s vehicle.

Earlier in the day, at least 50 people, including police sustained injuries during a clash between activists of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra League at Bakshibazar in the capital.

The clash erupted in adjacent areas immediately after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia entered the make-shift court area to appear in graft cases.

At one stage, some people set the vehicle of Chhabi fire while he was going to the hospital.
