DHAKA: Rejecting the possibilities of talks and midterm polls, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Saturday said necessary steps would be taken if anyone takes laws into their own hands.
The minister made the assertion while talking to journalists about the situation of last year’s January 5 national election at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in city.
Tofail added that the ruling Awami League will observe the day as the ‘Democracy Victory Day’.
“At that time, there was no alternative to election,” he described.
“Sheikh Hasina wanted to arrange the election for all parties, but, Khaleda Zia did not respond to her,” the newsmen were told.
Mentioning that he did not support to make phone call to Khaleda for dialogue, the AL leader said that the BNP chief, at that time, imposed a lot of insulting conditions to Sheikh Hasina.
Tofail added: “Now, there is no possibility of any political dialogue or midterm elections.”
The AL lawmaker also said necessary steps would be taken against them who would try to take the law into their own hands on January 5 next.
“Otherwise everything will go normal,” he further added.
