DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that the ruling Awami League (AL) has destroyed the main spirit of country’s war of independence.
He came up with the remarks after paying homage to the tomb of former president also BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Victory Day on Tuesday at city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Fakhrul said that the freedom fighters fought with the dreams of free and sovereign country but the illegal incumbent government has ruined their dreams.
He also said that the main spirit of the liberation war was democracy.
However, he claimed that the AL government has snatched people’s rights of democracy.
The BNP leader also claimed that the government is responsible for the killing, abduction and torture in the country.
The country’s independence and sovereignty are not safe after 43 years of independence, he added.
He said that BNP is struggling to ensure the rights of the people.
Fakhrul, once again, warned the government to face tougher movement under the leadership of BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
