Fakhrul appears before court

DHAKA:  BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir appeared before a Dhaka court in defamation case for making ‘derogatory comments’ against former state minister for law Qamrul Islam.

After the hearing of exemption appeal filed by Fakhrul’s lawyer, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court’s magistrate Anwar Sadat said the court, later, will give its decision on the appeal.

Mirza Fahkrul, at a discussion held at National Press Club on July 14 in 2010, termed the then state minister for law Qamrul Islam as ‘mentally ill’ and ‘mad’.

Later, on July 18, Bangabandhu Foundation president Abdul Malek filed a defamation suit for the derogatory remarks.
