Fakhrul summoned in defamation case

DHAKA: A Dhaka court asked BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to appear before it on January 22 in a defamation case for terming Awami League a ‘killer party’ and its chief Sheikh Hasina a ‘killer’.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court’s magistrate Amit Kumar Dey passed the order on Thursday.

Fakhrul, at a press conference at the BNP Nayapaltan central office on August 24, said that Awami League is a killer party and its president Sheikh Hasina is a killer too.

Bangladesh Awami Motsyajibi League vice-president Nur-e Alam Siddique filed the case against Fakhrul.

Later, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court asked the officer-in-charge of Paltan thana to submit a report on investigation before the court.

On December 15, OC Tofael Ahmed submitted the probe reports in the case.
