Fakhrul terms Tarique’s speech ‘tit for tat’

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the remarks of his party’s senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman were ‘tit for tat’ for ruling Awami League.

He came up with the assertion at the auditorium of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in a convention of former and present student leaders.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was also present in the program as chief guest.

Earlier on Monday, at a Victory Day program in East London, Tarique called the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a ‘Razakar’.

He also alleged ‘Bangabandhu agreed for a national government accepting the then military ruler Yahya Khan as President’.

‘Sheikh Mujib never wanted independence of Bangladesh’, Tarique further claimed in the program.

In response to Tarique’s derogatory comments, premier Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League president and also daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Wednesday warned Tarique to control his tongue.

Fakhrul urged the student leaders to associate the people for staging movements against the incumbent government.

Former student leader Aman Ullah Aman chaired the reunion program where other former and current student leaders were present.
