RAJSHAHI: Veteran politician and former minister Sardar Amjad Hossain died at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka on Friday afternoon due to old age complexity.
He was 75.
Sardar Amjad started his political career joining Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in 1964 and he was elected as publicity secretary of Awami League (AL) in 1969.
In 1970, Amjad was elected as Pakistan’s Provincial Assembly member.
After the independence of Bangladesh, he was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1973.
Later in 1987, Amjad joined Jatiya Party (JP) and became the minister for agriculture, food, land, fisheries and livestock.
Moreover, he again joined AL in 2007, but, took part in the national election in 2008 under the banner of ‘Nagarik Committee’ as AL did not give him party nomination.
After being defeated in the election, he left active politics.
However, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia mourned the death of Sardar Amjad.
