DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, also special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, called for dialogues to overcome the prevailing political crisis in the country peacefully.

A statement signed by his political and press secretary Sunil Shubha Roy, said on Tuesday.

In the statement, the former president also observed that the country is heading to a dire crisis due to political unrest.

Ershad criticized the imposition of shutdown by the opposition alliance as well as the government’s violent attitude to them.

It has created uncertainty across the country. Violence and democracy cannot go together in a sovereign country, he observed.

Expressing his deep shock for the bloodshed, Ershad called for dialogues among all political parties and to pave way to a political solution.
