DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to jail in a case filed with Paltan Thana on charge of instigating violence.
Metropolitan Magistrate passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police produced Fakhrul before the court with a 10-day remand plea.
On Tuesday, DB detained Fakhrul moments after he come out of the National Press Club in the afternoon following a nearly 24-hour stay there.
He was taken to DB Headhunters in the city’s Mintoo Road in the city and later shown arrested in that case.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deputy commissioner (DC) M Masudur Rahman told banglanews that Fakhrul has been arrested as he was wanted in several cases filed for violent incidents from January 4 to January 6.
Police said some 67 cases had been filed in different thanas under DMP against Fakhrul.
On Monday afternoon, Fakhrul went to the press club to join a program of pro-BNP professions and later he took shelter at the club office while pro-and anti-government activists were chasing and counter-chasing each other on the premises.
