DHAKA: At least five passenger buses were torched in the capital on Thursday, the third day of BNP-led 20-party alliance called nationwide blockade.
Sources told banglanews that the incidents took place at city’s Banasree, Mohakhali, Motijheel, Shantinagar and Gulistan area.
According to the fire service and civil defence office, blockaders set fire to a Taranga bus at city’s Shantinagar intersection in the night while another gang of blockaders torched a passenger bus around 7:40pm at Motijheel’s Arambagh area.
Earlier on 7:15pm, a Samrat Paribahan bus was set on fire at Mohakhali.
On the other hand, a minibus was torched by miscreants at city’s Gulistan area around 7:00pm which left a passenger burnt.
The injured, Mohammad Shahidullah, 52, hailed from Tangail’s Dhonebari area, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s burn unit.
Earlier, a group of blockaders torched a Rabrab Paribahan bus at Banasree area in the noon.
However, no casualty was reported in these incidents immediately.
