NARAYANGANJ: Blockaders vandalized 17 buses and torched another in Nitaiganj and Fatulla areas of the district on Friday, the fourth-day of nationwide blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Witnesses said a group of 15 to 20 youths intercepted a Dhaka- bound passenger bus of Dighirpar Paribahan (Dhaka Ja 14-0296) on Dhaka-Narayanganj-Munsiganj road in the area in Shasongaon area under Sadar upazila at 9:30am.

Identified themselves as blockaders, the youths forced the passengers to get down from the bus and then torched it, pouring petrol.

The blockaders also set fire on the road pouring petrol and vandalized six to seven vehicles there. Vehicular movement came to halt for half-an-hour during the violence.

On information, a fire fighting unit from Narayanganj rushed to the spot and doused the flame.

Fatulla Model Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier, blockaders also vandalized 10 vehicles in Nitaiganj area of the district around 9:00am.

Sources said leaders and activists of BNP, led-by its district unit president Advocate Toimur Alam Khandaker, city unit secretary ATM Kamal, district Jubo Dal president Mosharraf Hossain, city committee convener Maksudul Alam Khandaker Khorshed, city Chhatra Dal joint convener Shahed Ahmed brought out a brisk procession in the area at 8:45am.

From the procession, BNP men ransacked nine parked trucks and a private car, blasted hand bombs and cocktails.
Narayanganj Sadar Model Thana officer-in-charge Manzur Kader confirmed the matter to banglanews.
