SYLHET: An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in Sadar upazila after a mini-truck knocked him down while he was vandalizing vehicles on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam Sharif, 25, son of a late Aftab Ali, residing in Tukerbazar Bolaura Naya Mashjid area of the upazilla.
Sharif, who completed his Masters Degree from Sylhet Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was involved with Shibir’s local unit, claimed police.
Sylhet Metropolitan’s Jalalabad Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Jakir Hossain told banglanews that the youth was injured seriously Saturday night while vandalizing vehicles at Jangail Point on Sylhet-Sunamganj road.
“Sharif was knocked down by a mini-truck after its driver lost his control over the steering,” the policeman added saying, “He died later while taking to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.”
Though, according to the SI, the youth’s relatives tried to cover-up the incident, but, police came to know the death, through the locals on Saturday late night.
“Later, police, after recovering Sharif’s body, sent it to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy,” he concluded.
