DHAKA: The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has laxly been observing in Dhaka and 13 other adjoining districts on Monday.
The districts include Narayanganj, Gazipur, Tangail, Narsingdi, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Jamalpur and Netrokona districts.
Earlier on Sunday, JCD office secretary M Abdus Sattar Patwary announced the hartal through a press release.
The JCD called the shutdown protesting the confinement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and arrests of the party leaders and activists across the country.
However, some sporadic incidents took place in different areas during the hartal.
In Narayanganj, some people brought out a possession and picketed in the area.
Some Juba Dal activists led by Narayanganj district unit Juba Dal president Mosharraf Hossain brought out a possession in Sonargaon’s Kanchpur area and vandalized some vehicles in the areas around 7:45am.
Later, police chased and dispersed them from the spot.
Some Chhatra Dal men led by its joint conveners Rashidur Rahman Rusho and Shahed Ahmed brought out a possession in Galachipa area of Narayanganj town and tried to block Dhaka-Narayanganj train service.
However, they fled the scene as the law enforcers chased them around 8:30am.
Moreover, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb to a cement-laden covered van in Rail Gate area of Gazipur district Monday morning.
Joydebpur Town Sub-Inspector (TSI) Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Another car was torched in Cherag Ali area of Tongi in the morning.
However, none was injured in the attacks.
Huge numbers of law enforcers were deployed on Dhaka-Aricha highway to avert any subversive incidents.
Our correspondents say that the inter-district bus services remained halted in the hartal-enforced areas.
