DHAKA: Police have foiled the program of ‘Dinmojur-Shramajibi Janata’ (laborers and workers) to besiege BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office in the city on Thursday.
Earlier in the morning, more than one thousand people under the banner ‘Dinmojur-Shramajibi Janata’ brought out a procession to besiege the BNP chief’s office as a part of their protest against the ongoing nationwide blockade called by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
However, the protesters stayed at Gulshan-2 circle for about 20 minutes as police obstructed them in the area.
Chanting slogans against shutdown and blockade, they also demanded the withdrawal of this sort of political programs.
People were seen carrying several local agricultural tools, reported banglanews Staff Correspondent Sabbir Ahmed from the spot.
The workers said that they arranged the gherao program as they were not getting any work for 11 days due to the blockade.
‘We are day-laborers, we need work to earn our livelihood’, they told the correspondent.
