‘Blockade to continue’

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday categorically said the ongoing anti-government movement, blockade, would continue to press home their demand.

“The ongoing anti-government movement blockade will continue until further declaration,” she said.

The BNP chief made the assertion while talking to journalists in a press conference at her Gulshan political office in the city in the evening.

She also said, “They proposed seven points so that ruling Awami League comes forward for talks with BNP for an inclusive general election.:

Khaleda added: “But the government used the language of arms to confine all opposite voices by rejecting our proposals and detained party leaders including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.”

In response to a question on blockade, she said, “The government has compelled us (BNP-led 20-party) to call a countrywide indefinite blockade.”

The former prime minister of the country also alleged that the ruling party has opted out the path of subversive activities like setting fire to passenger buses, killing and injuring innocent people, children and students by hurling cocktails to give a false picture of BNP-led 20 parties’ ongoing blockade.

She condemned the attacks. She also thanked the ruling AL saying, “I welcome withdrawing the police barricades from around my office if they have done it out of conscience.”

She also urged the Awami League to free political prisoners and take initiatives to arrange a dialogue for an inclusive general election.
