PABNA: Police in a nightlong drive detained 55 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in the district on suspicion of violence during the ongoing nationwide blockade.

Confirming the matter, Pabna Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Siddiqur Rahman told banglanews that the drive was conducted from Monday night to Tuesday morning in a bid to avert any untoward situation.

Police nabbed 55 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from 11 thanas of the district, he added.

According to the ASP, the detainees will be sent to Pabna jail after being produced before the court.
