RAJSHAHI: The 24-hours hartal, enforced by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is underway in a relaxed mood across the district since Tuesday morning amid the fifteenth day of BNP-called nationwide road-rail-waterway blockade.
No hartal-supporter was seen picketing and no sabotage was reported anywhere across the district.
However, police detained four activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami. District’s Detective Branch (DB) of police Officer-in-Charge Sharidul Islam confirmed the detention to banglanews.
No bus of long-distance routes either left or entered the city.
A few numbers of buses of intra-district routes were seen running while light vehicles were plying normally on the city thoroughfares.
Dhaka-bound ‘Silk City Express’, Khulna-bound ‘Kapotakkho Express’ and other passenger trains left Rajshahi Railway Station following their respective schedules.
Additional law enforcers were patrolling the city’s strategic points and roads.
However, Rajshahi district unit of BNP announced a 24-hour hartal on Monday as a protest of arresting its president and also BNP’s special secretary, Nadim Mostafa.
