DHAKA: Five leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, have been detained from city’s Mohakhali area with 130 pieces of cocktails and huge cocktail-making explosives.

In a two and half-an-hour long special drive, police picked up Mustafizur Rahman, president of Shibir’s Banani Thana unit along with his four associates  from a mess in TB hospital gate area in Mahakhali while they were making bombs.

Banani Thana Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Sheikh Shahinur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Later, the detainees were presented at a press conference at Banani Thana at 9:15am.

During the time, Gulshan zone Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khandker Lutfur Kabir said in the drive, a team of law enforcers recovered huge materials which were gathered in the mess of Shibir leaders for sabotage during ongoing hartal, blockade. 

Police seized 130 pieces of cocktails, 3-kg of gun powder, 2-litres of petrol, 3-kg of spike, 10-kg stones and 10 pieces of scotch tape and books of Chhatra Shibir from their possession.

Moreover, police recovered TK1,05,100 extortion money which were collected for conducting subversive acts during ongoing unrest, he added.
 
In reply to a question, he said legal action would be taken against the trouble makers. Details would be disclosed after interrogation.
