JESSORE: At least 78 persons, including 36 local leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, have been detained here on Tuesday night.

The identity of the detainees could not be known yet.

Sources told banglanews that police, in a night long drive, held them from different places of the district.

Amongst the detainees, according to sources, there are 23 Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) men and 13 are leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Jessore additional superintendent of police (ASP) Reshma Sharmin, confirming the matter, said that all the detainees will be placed before the district courts by noon.
